Leveraging Technology for Humanitarian Relief

Humanitarian Activity Stream

We are developing an external vocabulary for activitystre.ms schema which includes object definitions specific to crisis response. This is the basis of a Humanitarian Activity Stream (HAS). An open source, community developed standard that will allow web and mobile applications to share humanitarian worker's activities to improvbe coordiation and accountability.

Humanitarian Activity Exchange

We are working toward an open source, decentralized server for storing humanitarian activities and serving Humanitarian Activity Streams. The open API will allow authenticated third party applications to consume and/or create humanitarian acitivites streams. Follow an organization or individual and receive realtime updates. The data is decentralized on an organization's or individual's server. It's open source so relief organizations can run thier own servers and own thier data.

Web and Mobile Applications

An open data standard and server with API will allow for the development of websites and mobile apps that improve coordination. An example application might display the a Humanitarian Activity Stream for users responsing to a a specific disaster event with real-time updates pushed form the app via the HAX API. Or maybe an organization has users log training and distribution when they happen, allowing for real time reporting back to donors
